On June 19th, a.k.a. Juneteenth, I had the absolute pleasure of capturing a wedding that felt like a celebration of love, culture, and legacy all wrapped in one!
There were so many emotional moments from the day. Held at the Chicago History Museum, the day was a stunning tribute to Black Excellence! From the setting to the details, everything was intentional, elegant, and deeply rooted in meaning. Lauren & Winton chose this day not just to say “I do,” but to honor where they come from and to make a statement about the kind of love they want to build: one grounded in family, pride, and freedom. They even made sure the guests’ seats were designed in a half moon so they could represent them being a core.
What I loved most about this wedding was how calm and centered it felt. The energy was warm and joyful, with the couple surrounded by loved ones who clearly meant the world to them. It was a true black tie affair. Every guest came dressed in all-black attire and did not disappoint! The entire day was a masterclass in intentional elegance.
Instead of a traditional reception with expected formalities like parent dances or grand entrances, the couple chose something refreshingly different. They rented out Kashmir, a chic cocktail bar, and hosted a relaxed celebration that was all about connection, laughter, and joy. It was the kind of celebration that encourages you to pause, take it all in, and simply enjoy the moment.
This wedding reminded me of something I want all my couples to know: It’s ok to do things your way!
There’s no rulebook for how your day “should” go. Whether you skip the formal dances, opt out of a traditional venue, or simply want to keep it intimate, the most important thing is that your wedding reflects the two of you!
I can’t wait to share more from this day, but here are a few sneak peeks of what a love-filled Juneteenth celebration looks like when tradition meets intention.
